Aeolian Islands

Next up was a day trip out to the Aeolian Islands. First up was Vulcano, and aptly named island not far off the north coast of Sicily.

The island is very volcanically active, and as you walk around you can see lots of places where fumaroles are bubbling up, like this one just off the beach. The whole island smells like sulfur.

Next was the picturesque port of Lipari.

Back in port we hiked up to the Castello di Milazzo, another 12th century Norman fort.

You can see how happy Kenning and Ryan are to be hiking up to another castle. We may be reaching castle-on-a-hill-overload.
